Choose the person, then make it yours
From a parent or carer
Describe a change you noticed, without adding private details about a child or another family.
- Choose one example of the teacher’s support that you can comfortably share.
- Edit the message and sign with your own name. A photo is optional; a text-only card avoids sharing a child’s image.
- Send the finished link through the school’s usual approved communication channel. If links are not accepted, use the same words in a plain message.

From an adult former student
A small memory can show that their work stayed with you long after the final class.
- Introduce yourself with the class or year they may remember.
- Write one specific lesson or moment, then explain what it means to you now.
- Use a publicly offered professional contact channel. Keep it brief and leave them free not to reply.

From a colleague
Recognise the help that happened between lessons: a shared resource, a kind check-in or time to listen.
- Pick something you saw or benefited from directly.
- Make one personal card in your own voice. This is not a card that collects staff signatures.
- Share it privately at a convenient time, without creating another task for them.

What to write when you only have a minute
Try: ‘Thank you for [specific action]. It helped [what changed]. I really appreciate [quality you noticed].’ Keep the example simple and true. You do not need to describe a teacher as a hero or tell a story that belongs to somebody else.
From a parent: ‘Thank you for explaining the new routine so patiently. Mornings have felt much calmer. I appreciate how approachable you have been.’ From a colleague: ‘Thank you for sharing your notes when I was catching up. It made a busy week manageable.’
A five-minute activity for a parent or carer
Ask your child what they enjoyed learning, if they want to contribute. An adult can turn that answer into a short note and make the card. Keep names, class details and photos to what is appropriate for your school and the recipient.
Preview the card before creating its link. The teacher opens it in a browser without registering. If the school blocks external links or asks families to use a particular app, follow that arrangement and paste the thank-you text there instead.
Prepare the words now; create the card near the day
There are more than 30 days between mid-September and 30 October. A photo gift made too early will be deleted before the celebration. Draft your message now, then create and send the final card closer to the date.
All photo gifts are deleted after 30 days and gifts without photos after 60 days, measured from creation. You share the finished link yourself; Open a Gift does not deliver scheduled emails, collect group signatures or send a physical gift.
