Terms of use

Open a Gift lets you write a message, add an optional photo, wrap it in an interactive reveal, and share the resulting link. It is free to create, send and open. There are no accounts, no passwords and no payments. We may change or discontinue features at any time.

You own what you put into a gift — the words, the photo, the names. You give us only the permission needed to store it and show it to whoever opens the link, for as long as the gift exists. You are responsible for it: make sure you have the right to use the photo and that the people named in it would be fine with it being shared.

Do not use Open a Gift to create or share a gift that:

• is illegal, or contains content that is illegal where you or the recipient are;
• harasses, threatens, bullies or abuses anyone, or is sent to someone who has asked you to stop;
• impersonates another person or organisation, or misleads the recipient about who it is from;
• contains sexual content involving minors, or any content that exploits or endangers a child;
• contains malware, phishing, scams, or links intended to harm the recipient's device or accounts;
• is spam, bulk unsolicited messaging, or an attempt to abuse the service (for example automated creation).

We may delete any gift, without notice, if we believe it breaks these terms or the law, or if it is reported to us and we agree. Anyone can report a gift link on the contact page.

A gift link is the key to the gift: anyone who has it can open it, unless you add a clue question. You are responsible for where you share it. We never send the link to anyone on your behalf. The sender also gets a separate private manage link; whoever holds it can see open status and reactions and can delete the gift, so keep it to yourself.

Gifts are temporary by design. Gifts with a photo are deleted 30 days after creation and gifts without a photo after 60 days, whether or not they were opened. The sender can delete earlier from the manage link. Do not use Open a Gift as the only copy of anything you want to keep.

The service is provided as-is and as available, without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that a gift will open on every device, that the site will always be up, or that a gift will survive until its scheduled deletion. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the service, including lost content.

How we handle the data in a gift is described in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

We may update these terms; the current version with its “last updated” date is always at openagift.com/terms. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new terms.
